FortLAN switched up their charity raffle sponsor for FortCON 2017 and are excited to announce Gamers Outreach for their new fundraising charity! We decided that as gamers, this would be a wonderful charity to partner with. So what does Gamers Outreach do? Here is their mission statement:
Gamers Outreach is a 501(c)(3) charity organization that provides recreation to children in hospitals through the power of video games and the gaming community. Hospitalization can often be a lonely, isolating, and scary experience for young people. We ease those burdens by providing equipment, technology, and software that help kids cope with long-term treatment.
Great, so how exactly does Gamers Outreach accomplish this? Simple! They build GO Karts and help groups like us or people like you, setup fundraising campaigns! In case you aren’t familiar with what a GO Kart is, here’s the jest of it:
GO Karts (Gamers Outreach Karts) are portable, medical-grade video game kiosks that enable hospital staff to easily provide bedside recreation to children who are unable to leave their rooms in hospitals.
It’s pretty simple, but we need YOUR help! We want to invite you to help put a smile on some kids’ faces! We want to give parents and guardians the relief that their child can still have fun during their hospital stay! We want the nurses, techs, and doctors to see a kid who has a good spirit and attitude because they got to enjoy some video games!
Don’t worry, we haven’t forgotten about Three Nails Project of Northern Indiana! We will continue to work with Jim Hall and his team in the future at our smaller events continuing into 2018 In case you are new, Jim Hall helps FortLAN with canned food drives and donates the goods to a local food pantry, for those less fortunate. Jim has a huge heart and we are a fan of his work. If you are interested in some local volunteer work, visit the Three Nails Project of Northern Indiana’s Facebook Page and get involved!
Give some love to our sponsors who have graciously donated items so we can give them to you. Send them a thank you and follow them on Twitter and/or Facebook!
